#1 Time Saving Tip for Marketing Videos in Your Yoga Business

If you’ve ever recorded a video for your students or social media, then you know exactly how frustrating this can be.

I received this question from one of my 1:1 coaching clients: “Help me Amanda. It just took me 3 hours to record a 3 minute video. Please tell me there’s something I can do to make this better!"

Immediately I responded and said (1) yes there is and (2) can I use your example because I’ve heard this so many times and I think I need to share it publicly. Fortunately she said yes to that request and here we are.

I won’t make you wait any longer, here’s the #1 video time saving tip.

#1 tip: Give yourself a time limit!

When I asked her what she spent the most time on during those three frustrating hours, we spent some time discussing and dissecting what it could be.

And in the end, as so many of us do, it turns out that she was trying to make the video perfect. She kept stopping and starting. Redoing. Starting over.

So I asked her to do something incredibly simple (not easy, but simple)! I told her: I want you to limit your time on what you're doing. Give yourself 10 minutes.

The reasoning behind this is that we fill the space we allow something to take.

For example, if you're traveling and you have luggage, you will fill your suitcase and think you need all of it. But then if you show up to the airport and they say your suitcase is too heavy, you will find things that you can do without. All of a sudden things get a lot less important because you need to get on that plane! You figure it out. This is exactly what we end up doing when we give ourselves limited time to do something.

My client used this tip the very next day and it worked like a charm. She took three hours of work down to ten minutes!

Make it work for you

So many people fall into this trap, so know that you're not alone. I've done it!

Put yourself into a smaller container of time. Pretend you're packing for a vacation and you've got to get to the airport. You ARE going to pack that bag and get out the door. You are going to get it done.

"Please know that your students don't want "perfect." They want relief. And you, my friend, have a tool that will help them experience relief. So why are you keeping it from them?" - Amanda McKinney

Get yours students the relief they need. Share the message you have to share. I want you to get it to your students. Trying to find perfect does not exist. Let go of the perfection and just jump in.

Do it today. Give yourself a deadline of ten minutes. I've never seen this strategy not work, so if you're willing to try, you will succeed! You've got this!

Your next step

Well, there you have it - the tip that works every time!

Your next step is to identify something you want to get done today and set a short time frame to get it done. Whether it’s video, writing an email, or something completely different - set a time frame and get it done. Test this theory and see how effective it is!

Until next time, give yourself permission to get things done not-perfectly and grace along the way.
