Tips for Self-Sabotage As A Yoga Business Owner

Have you ever found yourself self sabotaging something in your life or business?

This is something I see often, but when it happened to me it was a huge wake up call! Today I'm calling myself out for self sabotaging a launch. This was originally an Instagram Live where I talked through what was happening and how I was course correcting in real time.

This worked for me (and I share why below), but the biggest thing with self-sabotage is that you’ve got to catch it. You can’t move past it if you don’t notice it’s happening.

It’s my hope that this serves as a reminder that it this happens to all of us in our life or business, but we can always course correct.

Buckle up, dear friend! Let's dive in.

How self-sabotage shows up in your yoga business - and my story!

"When your actions do not line up with what you're saying you want to do, that's when you're self-sabotaging and you won't achieve your goal." - Amanda McKinney

I see self-sabotage happening all the time with the people that I coach and the people I work with inside my membership - and it drives me crazy! And I say that with all of the love and compassion in my heart. I see the potential that you have, so when I see this happening, it drives me crazy.

It's not part of my personality to self-sabotage. In fact, until now I'm almost 100% sure I've never self-sabotaged before now (at least not to my knowledge)!

However, inside my membership Thrive, we're doing a super special program right now called Last 90 Days where we set ourselves up for success for 2022 by finishing this year strong. It's like an amplified version of Thrive where we're setting goals and tracking progress weekly.

But have you heard me talking about this? No, you haven't!

Have you seen things on Instagram where I talk about the Last 90 Days? No! I haven't posted hardly anything about it.

Have you seen some emails? Nope, you certainly haven't, because I haven't talked about it.

Compared to all of the launches I've done before, this is NOT the same. I usually show up in a big way during a launch. This Last 90 Days program that's happening inside Thrive is brand new, it's exciting, and I should be shouting about it from the rooftops.

So I woke up this morning and realized I was self-sabotaging this launch. And immediately I thought - we don't do that here. I'm so fortunate that self-sabotage is not usually part of my personality. I know that this happens a lot for people.

When I see this happening for someone else, it drives me bananas because I can see the potential in the person, the offering, or whatever they are working on.

It usually goes something like this: "So you're telling me you wrote the emails for launching your program, you created your social media graphics and the posts, you just didn't post them? Why?!" They did the work, and they aren't following through.

But friend...now I've done it. I'm the one who self-sabotaged.

I can tell you that once I realized this, I immediately course corrected. I did a pattern interrupt. I recognized this was happening, and I changed up everything. I shifted my schedule around and prioritized my launch. The only thing that matters right now is for me to talk to you and make sure you know you're invited to the Last 90 Days in Thrive!

Last 90 Days will springboard your momentum in your yoga business because you'll be able to see actual results before 2022.

If you're resonating with this right now, and you know you've self-sabotaged in the past - the Last 90 Days program is built for YOU. I promise you that I'm putting everything into place so that self-sabotage doesn't happen for you!

How and when to course correct self-sabotage

"When I realized I was self-sabotaging my launch, I recognized it - and then I course corrected." - Amanda McKinney

The minute you realize you may be self-sabotaging, you need to recognize it first and then course correct immediately. Don't wait until the next launch to course-correct. Do it now.

Interrupt the pattern. With self-compassion, of course. But do whatever you need to do to shake it off and do things differently. Take action!

When I realized I was self-sabotaging, I immediately shifted my schedule around and prioritized my launch. I took everything else off the calendar for the day.

"For me, I had to do something dramatically different in order to course-correct because otherwise I would sit here and just fall into the trap of thinking 'oh, I can't do that.'" - Amanda McKinney

Once you recognize it and take action to interrupt the pattern, then you can spend some time reflecting on why. Why do you think you're self-sabotaging? You might have to do some serious digging to get down to the root of it.

Your next step

I hope this helped you hear that this happens to us all and we just have to take action and move through it. Self sabotage in any area of life or business doesn’t have to define you.

Just because it happened once or even more than once doesn’t mean that’s what you will do forever. You can absolutely course-correct.

Maybe you take my suggestion and take the opposite action, maybe you talk with a therapist, maybe you call yourself out on Instagram Live. No matter what you decide to try, the key is that you take action.

So your next step after hearing this is to either (1) take action today if you’re self sabotaging and want to course-correct or (2) journal about how you will course-correct if you find yourself doing this.

Until next time, give yourself permission to course-correct self-sabotage and grace along the way.

"I hope you're not self-sabotaging today. But if you are, we don't do that here. So how can you course correct today?"
